Union Street Dog Park
The Union Street Dog Park is located at the corner of Union and Chapel Streets in New Haven, Connecticut. It was created in 2012 by the local community. Since that time we have made numerous improvements. We have added lighting, gravel, and a doggie water fountain, and have removed obstacles. We also clean and maintain the park.

Since the park was created, our volunteers have worked and organized with our partners (the City of New Haven, United Illuminating, Urban Resource Initiative, and the Regional Water Authority) to:
- Install lights for illumination and safety
- Cover about 80% of the park in a clean small pebble surface.
- Work with the Regional Water Authority to install a DOGGIE WATER FOUNTAIN!
- Create new signage to build a sense of shared responsibility.
- Add a lock to the truck-access gate.
- Create a 4-season garden at Chapel and Union Streets.
This is what we are still working on:
- FENCING: Painting the rusted fence, installing a permanent solution to cover the wide spacing in fencing to protect small dogs.
- SURFACING: Resurfacing the pea gravel as needed.
- TREE AND BORDER PLANT CARE: Pruning trees inside the park, reducing overgrowth in the woods bordering the railroad tracks.
- CORNER GARDEN: Maintaining the garden at Chapel and Union Streets
- CLEANING: Keeping the park and sidewalk clean with Fall and Spring cleanups, continuing to remove refuse from the behind the fence.
