About Friends of Union Street Dog Park
The Union Street Dog Park, located in downtown New Haven, Connecticut, is located at the corner of Union and Chapel Streets. The dog park was created in September of 2012 by Friends of Wooster Square Parks, a community group dedicated to improving public spaces in the Wooster Square neighborhood. The park was made possible through more than $17,000 in privately-raised funds donated by individual community members, as well as the collaboration of the City of New Haven, which provided an area that for years had been left to fall into decay.
Today, the Union Street Dog Park is maintained through Friends of Union Street Dog Park, a group of dog owners who recognize the contribution this important community resource plays in the quality of their daily life year-round. Local residents, as well as dog owners from outside the neighborhood, are now able to enjoy the outdoors with their four-legged family members, as they run, play, and socialize with other dogs in a clean and safe off-leash area. Dog owners themselves also build friendships and connections to their neighborhood, which creates a stronger sense of community, enhancing and reinvigorating life in the downtown area.
The Union Street Dog Park is a centerpiece of urban renewal and community-building in downtown New Haven.
Our community partners include many individuals and organizations that have helped us in our mission, providing labor, expertise, funds, materials, and other kinds of support. They include:
